Cardio Pilates with Amanda

We made it to Friday. This is the end of my first week back to normalcy after getting the flu, celebrating all the Christmas’s and going on vacation. Let me tell you it feels good to be on my normal schedule again; packing lunches, making dinner and going to my  daily Pilates classes. I must be a creature of habit and when I get out of sync, everything is off.

One of my favorite Pilates classes that Club Pilates Mequon offers is cardio jump board classes. These classes are high energy, they get your heart pumping and blood flowing all while still utilizing the core principles of Pilates.

From glute jumps to ab jumps, this class encompasses the whole body and makes you feel like a total bad ass.

But enough about me. I want to introduce you to one of my amazing instructors Amanda Kindschy Hoffmann. I get the privilege to work with Amanda weekly in her classes, and before she became a teacher we spent many Pilates classes together.

So without further ado, I give you Amanda!

How long have you been practicing vs teaching Pilates? I tried Pilates for the first time in May 2014, shortly after CP Mequon opened. I started slowly, but within about 6 months, I was taking classes a few times a week. I’d always been fairly active playing sports growing up, but I’d never found an activity in adulthood that I could stick with. With my husband’s encouragement, I signed up for the teacher training program and now I’ve been teaching since 2016.

What do you love about Pilates? I love that your Pilates practice is always evolving. I just read something on social media that said something to the effect of ‘Pilates never gets easier…if anything, as you get deeper into the work, it should be harder.’ This is because you truly learn how interconnected everything is and how to use your full body during every exercise! Pilates isn’t spot training… its full body!!

What makes Pilates at Club Pilates different then other studios? Working at Club Pilates Mequon is so much fun because we have a fantastic leader in Megan and an awesome team of teachers and members! It’s such a community. We also teach things a little differently than other studios. We teach classes with a foundation of Pilates, but we also take inspiration from other fitness and movement modalities. Every teacher is going to give you something a little different stylistically.

Do you have any advice for a beginner or someone that has never done Pilates? Just give it a try and handful of times and see how your body responds. Don’t be too concerned with doing everything ‘right’. Of course we want you to be safe, but you should also feel free to let your body move. The more you do it, the deeper you can work

What is your favorite Pilates position and why? It’s so hard to pick one! Roll-up and Roll-over are amazing because they are really the basis for SO MANY exercises in Pilates. You will see this skill and shape repeated in so many places in the system. I also love the Teaser! It’s challenging and fun!

What is your favorite equipment used at Club Pilates? The Refomer is our bread and butter, but I LOVE the Chair! I think it’s so amazing that you can get such beautiful full-body work with such a small piece of equipment

I truly just love learning about Pilates and continuing to learn so I can grow, evolve, and change as a student and teacher myself. Seeing my students have ‘Lightbulb Moments’ and feeling good in their bodies is the best feeling to me! – Amanda
